Key Stage 1

January

In Yr1 our focus will be Light and Dark. We will also be using this theme through our science, Art and some of our Literacy work.  In RE, we will be thinking about why we are special and making each other feel important.  In geography, we at the local environment around school and how it is lit.  The children will be making a plan as to how they could use lights to improve safety.  In Yr 1 and 2 on a rolling programme we are looking at Light and Dark in Science and will be carrying out simple experiments and beginning to plan a fair test. 

In Yr2  our topics will include learning all about Florence Nightingale in History and other famous people of the time and ones who are famous to the children.  We will research in our ICT lessons linking with famous people and learning how to save and retrieve information.  In D and T, we will be using a range of media to design and make a coat for Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat. In RE we will be looking at the World around us and special places. During PSHCE we will look at issues through circle time games and activities.  In Numeracy we will be looking at number, develop our learning of the 2,5 and 10 times tables, partitioning numbers and looking at ways to apply this in our lessons. The children will work with both 2 and 3 digit numbers. Simple multiplication and division will also be introduced this half term.  In Literacy lessons we will be completing our current work on poetry for this week and will be moving onto work from a famous author, Jane Hissey and a range of her books will be used to stimulate independent writing and reading.  Music and French will continue to be taught by specialist teachers on Thursday afternoons.  Wherever there is homework that links to current work in class on Education City this will be set on a Monday with spellings and paper based homework will be sent home on Fridays.

April

In Y1 minibeasts will be the focus of our science work. The topic will be linked to our artwork, using a range of media. In art, we will also be designing fantasy castles. Our geography work will contrast localities & we will learn about Special people in RE.

In Y2, we are looking at plants & animals in the local environment. Mother Nature comes to the fore in art, using a range of media to create both 2D & 3D images linked to well known artists. ICT will be used to support our work in literacy & numeracy, whilst finding information about Shelf & the local area.
